Beneath the Blue: Unforgettable Dive Adventures on Alphonse Island, Seychelles

Diving Deep: The Best Scuba Diving Experiences in the Seychelles

When it comes to diving in the Seychelles, there are few places that evoke the same sense of awe and adventure as Alphonse Island. Here at Blue Safari, we don’t just offer diving—we offer a journey into one of the last truly untouched marine sanctuaries in the Indian Ocean.

Tucked away in the Outer Islands, Alphonse Island is a remote paradise where nutrient-rich currents sweep across ancient reefs, and each dive reveals a living tapestry of marine life. From the moment you plunge beneath the surface, you’re immersed in an underwater world that feels entirely your own—vibrant, wild, and brimming with life. With 34 dive sites spread across Alphonse Island and St Francios Atoll, we cater to every kind of diver—from those taking their first breath underwater to seasoned explorers seeking the thrill of deep water drift dives.

Napoleon:

Just 15 minutes by boat from the Alphonse can-dock lies one of our most iconic dive sites: Napoleon. This advanced site drops between 16 and 30 metres and is a favourite for good reason. With a raised open-water reef, it’s alive with towering coral structures and deep crevices that offer shelter to tawny nurse sharks and an array of smaller reef dwellers.

Swarming over the stunning corals, one can see humpback unicornfish, bluelined snapper, and yellowdot emperors. Spot flamboyant nudibranchs delicately feeding near the coral heads, and watch as graceful sea fans sway in rhythm with the current. As the reef slopes into the deep, keep your eyes peeled for fleeting shadows—hammerheads, whitetip reef sharks, and silvertips often patrol these waters. Napoleon wrasse, giant sweetlips, bumphead parrotfish, and the occasional school of batfish complete the scene, while fusiliers shimmer overhead in a mesmerising silver ballet. With its steady current and depth, Napoleon is a dream for drift diving—and a front-row seat to some of the ocean’s most majestic creatures.

Pinnacles:

To the southeast of Alphonse lies Pinnacles, a site that’s as dramatic as it is serene. Rising from 25 to 15 metres, three colossal coral pinnacles create a playground for marine life and divers alike. Below, a broad plateau gives way to the deep, where dogtooth tuna cruise the edges and potato grouper loom in the shadows.

The coral structures are adorned with massive gorgonian sea fans and flanked by dense schools of fusiliers. With reef contours form natural hideaways that draw in stingrays, nurse sharks, and snapping shoals of black, bluelined, and humpback snapper. Peer closely and you’ll find tasselled scorpionfish, lionfish, and oriental sweetlips, tucked into the reef’s intricate crevices. As the dive unfolds and the current subtly shifts, you’ll rise to a mini wall at just 7 to 10 metres. Here, branching corals flourish, reef fish dart playfully, and the occasional hawksbill or green turtle drifts silently past. It’s a dive that continuously surprises—from the grandeur of its topography to the intimacy of its hidden details.

But what truly sets Pinnacles apart are the moments that defy words. When sunlight filters through just right, illuminating the reef. It’s in these moments—suspended in stillness, enveloped by colour and life—that you feel the profound connection with the ocean. A reminder of just how little we know about the world beneath the surface.

Of course, no dive would be complete without the expertise and passion of the Alphonse dive team. Our guides are more than professionals— each one has a deep-rooted respect for the ocean and an intimate knowledge of these waters. From the precision of our skippers to the storytelling of our dive masters, every moment with them is infused with care and curiosity.

At Blue Safari, diving is not just an activity—it’s a way of connecting, learning, and protecting. We invite you to explore this underwater world with us.
